After quite a bit of persuasion and a bit planning, Jordan got me to do this with her: I was reluctant at first, but at the end I have to say that it came together quite nicely. Few more pictures :)

After waiting all year, it's finally here!! I've only been going to garba for a few years now but I look forward to it months in advance!
What can be better than dancing through the night? We had ordered a dress from online but when it came in we realized that it wasn't one with a lot of flare. So what does my mom do a few hours before garba starts? She buys me a new dress. I had no clue, I was absolutely stunned and I will love her forever for it (I really have no choice on that last one ;) With a new dress I am even more excited to go and we get there just as it was starting. Niyati had also bought a few of her friends from her school and I felt it was great to give them such a unique experience. We all danced until we could no longer feel our feet. I later realized that I had two huge blisters on the bottom of my two big toes. We wrapped up by around 3 in the morning and after reaching Niyati's house (barely able to walk), we had a large bowl of ice cream and then hit the bed. By the time we all fell asleep it was about 5. And of course, my body picks this day to wake up at 7:30 -_-. We were just lying down until about 10, when we got up, had breakfast and then started choreographing for our upcoming performance. Remember this is being done less than 24 hours after we finished dancing for about 5 hours straight. Although the choreo is starting to shape up, it was an excruciating process. And I loved every minute of it ;) After all, they say that soreness is the best kind of pain :) (and I obviously am not sore often...) Yesterday afternoon, I went over to Nayha's house to celebrate her 15th birthday party. It was a really nice get-together, and all the girls had a great time. Nayha put in The Ring and we (..I really mean I..) got freaked out when I got an unknown phone call that just turned out to be a well played out prank. After a small first dinner and some amazing ice cream cake, Saumya and I had to leave to go over to Varun's house to attend the third Onam of the year. Once we reached Varun's house we almost immediately started our dinner. After already eating a dinner already, I was not too hungry. I had a small portion of the meal, but whatever I did have was quite good :) After a couple of games and a bit of dancing, we got to have another piece of chocolate cake in honor of Aruna Aunty's birthday. (except this time we had it on a piece of banana leaf :D )
This was a great day to unwind, after a stressful week I haven't posted anything in so long!!
Part of it is due to stressful school work and not getting enough sleep to begin with, and part of it is due to the fact that because I haven't been getting enough sleep, I try to catch up on it. Anyyyyywhooo, I'm sowwy :( Probably the most important thing that happened in the last 3 weeks was that Dad changed jobs from Oracle to EMC!! After being a part of Oracle for about 15 years this can be considered a big deal ;) He's been saying he's wanted to make some sort of change for a long time and I'm so glad that he got that. Best wishes for his success in this new company :) This Onam turned out the same as it does every year. Days of preparation on mom's side to complete all (9? 10?) individual dishes, stressful moments on the day of the event, but by the time it starts everything fell into place. Shoutout to my mom for making all of those dishes and doing a lot of other things around the house. I can obviously see that people who live on earth also do have superpowers. At the end of a fun, filling and tiring day, it felt great to crash on my bed. Two Onam's down, one more to go. September 4th, 2011. I cannot believe this. Three years ago, on this day, Niyati, Anupa and I ascended on the Lyman High School stage and danced and danced and danced. After years of practice we were finally deemed good enough to have an Arangetram. The Arangetram is a 2 hour long performance to signify one's completion/graduation of the Indian classical dance (Bharatanatyam) art form. By the end of the performance the dancers receive a diploma from their teacher. I was only 12 when I completed my Arangetram, which is quite young for a graduate (but there's a long story behind that...I would have done it later if I could :) After this experience I didn't just end up with a certificate in my hands. I made lifelong friends, was able to spend a lot of time with my amazing teacher, and found a passion that describes me. I was 5 when I went to my first dance class. Back then I didn't know any better. My mom wanted me to dance so I did. As I attended more and more classes, I realized how hard yet beautiful this art is. I pushed through. I practiced (maybe not as often as my parents wanted me too...) until I was capable of performing on that stage, in front of hundreds of people. The three of us spent countless days with bruised knees, tired arms and sore legs. Then the day came, and none of that mattered anymore. We had done it. Well this weekend, I was sure doing a lot of labor. There was enough homework to steal the precious day away from me :(
On the up side, Sanchi and Rishi were able to came to visit on Sunday, and I'll be going to a few Ganesh Chathruti poojas today, both a lot better than taking notes about ancient Rome and symbolism. Ooh and I got a new EOS which is always a good part to a day (: |
