Instead of going out and around the neighborhood for Halloween this year, a group of friends and I went over to Vaishu's house for a small Halloween party. We started off watching the Purge, and went on to dressing up like the characters from the movie. Huge thank you to Jordan, who, not only made scary good masks for us to wear, but also did an incredible job with the makeup/face paint! Unfortunately by the time we got outside, all the trick-or-treater's had retreated back into their chambers, but that did not stop us. We made the most of the occasion by ending the night by playing man-hunt throughout their neighborhood. I am really starting to feel like after every gathering, our group knits closer and closer together, held tight by the laughs and memories. And it's not a bad feeling to have c:

Diwali: An Indian holiday, celebrating the return of Lord Rama from his 14 year exile and hence marking our new year. We fill our house with small dias (lighted lamps), welcoming the Lord into our homes, and showing that even when darkness surrounds you, light will always prevail. During the five days of Diwali, the smell of freshly made sweets fill a household, the sound of laughter and music spread through the hallways, and the sight of midnight firecrackers fill up the sky. On this beautiful and auspicious day, whether you celebrate it or not,
I wish you all a very Happy Diwali. Saal Mubarak! Have you ever experienced those days where you do a lot of different activities and by the end of it all you look back and it feels as if you have exceeded the limit of a 24 hours? I felt that yesterday. October 22, 2014, Wednesday. First marking period has just finished. Didn't do too much during the school day, but had to stay and help out for a movie night after school. Number one. Right after that, Saumya, Reyshma and I went to compete in a bowling match. Number two. The time is about 5 o'clock. Straight from bowling we go to a designated meeting place and Vrinda aunty comes to pick us up (thanks!). The three of us, Varun, Pranav, Manavi and Alka aunty are all being driven to Universals annual Halloween Horror Nights. Now that everyone from school are more closely connected and better friends,we decided it may be nice if we meet up at Universal. Number three. The over all experience of Halloween Horror Night was incredible. Our group grew exponentially at the last minute, but that made it all the better. I don't think I have laughed or screamed so much in the same day in all my life. Huge shout-out to Austin, who was able to get us through almost ALL the houses and a few rides despite the large lines! From Purge Scare Zones, to the cannibals, to the show, to just bonding, it was definitely a night that won't be forgotten. Thanks to everyone who made the night exactly how it was :D
Vaishu was the one to tag me in one of her videos last week and since then I have watched almost every one. This girl is so talented! I'm having a hard time deciding which dance is my favorite!
Few other videos of her, definitely worth your time :) Am I Wrong Anaconda (Much better than the actual video..) Rude I haven't found any time to post for the past week and I probably shouldn't be posting today either but, who needs to do homework anyway? ;) Flashback to last Monday:
Last Friday, a group of SHPE kids and I went over to Lockheed Martin, the science center for engineering. Everything over there was quite interesting but by far the best part was experiencing Virtual Reality from glasses that they made right out of their own 3D printer. With those glasses on, no matter how you moved your head, the scene moved with you. I had previously done a speech based off of VR and this is the first time I had actually seen it. We were not allowed to take any pictures in the center because Lockheed is a government building. That evening Niyati came over so were could finish our dance for Kaanya's party the following day. We choreographed almost 2 of the 3 songs that we would be doing. I'll admit that without practice, the routine was a bit difficult and it took quite a while for us to come up with steps and then do it enough times so that we at least have a vague outline of it. We did not go to bed until about 2 that day, and we were both supposed to wake up at about 6 the next morning to see a debate tournament. Quite frankly, I was exhausted. The only thing that got me through that day was the cupcakes Niyati got from Sweet, the pasta shells my mom made for dinner and the pear dessert she baked for later, when we were looking for anything that would help get a bit of sugar through our bodies. Saturday morning were up and out of the door before 7 in the morning. I was just going to observe, while Niyati was going to help out (it was at her school). Suba was also observing with me, and we were able to see some incredibly talented people. I could only watch two evens, the Lincoln Douglas and Dramatic Interpretation. Both were very good, but the DI was done by people so powerful that they almost made the two of us cry. Yes, cry. There were 6 people who went, and our eyes were blurred with tears at some point throughout almost each one. Unbelievable. Went back to Niyati's house to practice the dance a few more times before we started to get ready for the party. Reaching the event site, we were blown away. Everything looked so beautiful and was set up so neatly. There was a small group that the two of us knew, but we didn't have much time to socialize because we had to change once again, this time for the dance.
So..we did finish it..but in all honesty it didn't go as well as we hoped...but that's too bad right? I hope so... :/ I've always felt the dancing towards the end of a party is the most fun part, and we gave it our all that night! Celebrating a great night, and hopefully many more to come! Happy Birthday Kaanya! As of October 4, 2014, I am proud to say that I have officially completed exactly 365 days of being a total vegetarian. Originally a person who would be able to eat a chicken wing in the blink of an eye, not only have I not touched it since last year, but I haven't even had the craving for it. Still not sure exactly why I am currently doing this, but I will keep it up for as long as I can :) In all honesty, I don't yet consider myself a vegetarian; I feel like I haven't been doing it for long enough, and I don't know when I may start again. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say that they are a "vegetarian for the week" or some other phrase along those lines. No. You are not vegetarian for the week. You are just not eating meat for a consecutive seven days. That's all.
