I am nearing the end of week one at UF. More importantly, I am nearing the end of week one away from home -- which might be the longest I have been away. And (I'm sorry, Mom and Dad) but I am loving the independence. Maybe I'm not feeling as homesick as I would have thought because its only been a week, or because I know they are only a few hours away. The absence of constantly being in the comfort of my own house has forced me to regularly pick up after myself and make sure my surroundings are neat (your always in the back of my mind, mother.), and even making my bed (!!!!). I've been more active, not only walking or biking to class everyday, but also attending yoga or calorie cutting sessions at the gym. The freshman 15 haunts me everyday, so I make sure to eat a few salad leaves along with those free pizza slices or donuts that seem to be handed out at every corner. I've realized the absolute bliss found in libraries -- small, comfortable pods in which you lose track of time (I'm in one of those cute pods now :)) No more stupid fights with them either, its all love for their daughter now!! And though I haven't made too many friends yet, the amount of laughs I've had with my roommate, Yasmina, have been enough to distract me from the fact that I really don't know anyone else. Very excited to be trying out for the bhangra team, and I know it'll be a good experience regardless or whether or not I get in (but just thinking about those late night dance practices makes me giddy with delight). If this is the preview of how the rest of my time on this campus is going to be, then I will definitely be ready for more :)
