" New York is not a city, it's a world." A few days ago, I stepped into this unfamiliar, crisp, new world, in which we had only 48 hours to see and experience the sites that normally take up ones life. We had landed in New York, the City of Lights. Once we got stepped of the plane to the stable floors of the airport, we immediately found a change that crawled up our spines and ran though our body. A mere two hours ago, it was nearly impossible to put on a long sleeves shirt, let alone go out wrapped up in a bundle of sweaters. But that's how this scene ended. Three normal Floridians, one of whom was quite fascinated to see her own breath. Now, after we paid more than $50 for a 15 minute taxi ride (plus an additional $18 in tolls) and saw around the city, we finally reached our hotel, the Double Tree. I have no idea where that name originated but all those thoughts were put aside as we stepped into the toasty hotel from frigid cold outside. Now do you know that feeling when you first walk into a hotel? That feeling of warmth and luxury and nice hotel soap? Ya, me too. In our hotel there was also an electronic map off all the interesting places close by, and that is the reason that I remembered about Carlos Bakery, which was only about 4 miles from our hotel! But for Friday, that was out of the picture because in just a few hours we will start getting ready for the wedding. By the end, I was in a dress and heels, about to go out into 45 degree weather. I am the type of girl who usually needs a full sleeved shirt if the temperature is anything below 70 degrees. And now here we are walking to the venue, in the type of weather that merely teases us with the chance of snow. All that aside, we finally reached the hall, and everything was gorgeous. This was a Christian wedding and it was actually the first wedding I have ever attended. Everything was very classy and the event ran very smoothly. Although I did not know many of the guests who were there, the party was still something to remember, and it ended with everyone having a great time :) As we made our way back to the hotel, we had made plans with Sanchi for me to stay over at her apartment for the night so she could show me around the city the next day. Obviously, still having a lot of 'child' inside of me, I was naturally excited. We only arrived by around 11 so we couldn't do too much that night. As we woke the next morning, we made the days plans. Before we left for anyplace, Sanchi took me to the balcony on the topmost floor of her apartment and there before me was the grand New York skyline. It was gorgeous. Now, I'm still counting my stars for this feat, but luckily (the better word would probably be coincidentally) Carlos' Bakery was just walking distance from her house. When I heard the news I was absolutely stunned. Leaving by about 10:30 in the morning we were at the bakery in no more than 30 minutes. And although she did warn me that the shop usually had a lane wrapped around the block (and since today was 10 am on a Saturday there was a much greater chance of that occurrence) as we turned the corner, not only was there no line outside (this is the time my heart dropped slightly, in chances that it may have been closed.) but as we got closer we realized that there was also barely any line inside! I know what you must be thinking. It's just a bakery; why is she getting so excited about it? But, honestly, it is a big deal, and I would think that anyone who watched the show would agree. Not only did it look and smell extravagant, but I even got a picture with Mario!! After the bakery, we headed to the train, and road back to the city. Because the correct train wasn't working at that time, we took the closest train and walked back to the hotel. This whole thing turned out to be another adventure with bumpy underground train (subway?) rides, bubble tea, and strong winds. When we finally reached in one piece, we all left almost immediately to eat lunch in a cozy restaurant called Bombay (any guesses on what they served?). From there we had to go straight to the airport and all the details after that are small and irrelevant. So in this fashion, our long-awaited trip to New York City came to a conclusion. These times will be cherished.
