Yesterday was Jyoti's Sweet 16th Birthday party, which also happened to be the first Sweet 16 that I have attended. And I have to say, it was quite a different experience. This was the first time I spent so much time getting ready for a birthday, the first time I was on the dance floor with everyone my age (obviously, I'm not one to go to school dances), the first time I've been to a masquerade. The party was amazing :) The speeches were touching, the food was good and the ceremonies were interesting. Although I didn't really know anyone except Niyati, Archana, Nikhil, Nikki, and Vivek, after the dance floor opened, that started to change. There were a lot of Indian songs that played, which I was very grateful for ;) We danced until our hair was no longer straight, and our feet were about ready to fall off. Jyoti, if you ever read this, great job and Happy Birthday :) After the party, I went home with Niyati, and somehow we found the energy to stay up and continue to choreograph the Independence Day song until about 2:30 before we called it a day. We were up by 8 the next morning, and finally finished the dance by noon. I'm going to try and post everyday until school starts, as a way to motivate myself and actually do something and make the most of the last few days... :( We went to the school today. It was schedule pickup. Well, I picked up my schedule. And my very first class was astronomy. I took astronomy last year. -_- Way to go guys.
I obviously needed a change. I stood in line, which was already a bit long. Now all I wanted was a class that I would like, preferably honors. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I reach the front where the wonderful administrator (that I probably shouldn't name) tells me that I have to go back and fill out a paper with exactly what classes I want if I switch out of Astronomy. Okay... So I go back and after hunting down a computer so I can actually see the list of options I have, I write them down. I go back and stand in line -- this one felt just as long. I sit back down in front of her. Ok, I have a list of options can you tell me if there's room in any of these classes? No, all these classes are completely full in first period, and if you want that one, you have to change your entire schedule. Okay... Well would you be able to tell me which classes I would be able to choose? Based on the length of the line behind you, I don't have enough time to that for everyone. Then how will I know which classes are empty? (And I swear this is exactly what she said) You won't know, but you just have to write it down and I'll see what I can do. If you want you can right down 'any honors class' on the paper, but then you will have to go with whichever I choose. What. What? Okaaaayyyyy...... So I go back to my dad and we go to get my textbooks. But I'm not giving up yet. Now my dad and I go back to the cafeteria, and plan out any of the classes that I'm willing to take. Then we go back to the line and wait another 30 minutes. By this time its about 1:20. The entire pickup is supposed to be only from 11-1. She calls us over and asks us to sit next to her. We sit. Ok, so I just wanted to change my first period and I was wondering if you could just tell me my available options -- Honey, its already about 20 minutes past, and pulling that up is a long process so I just need you to fill out that form with what you want. What??? She didn't even look on her computer! Ok, I understand its late for you but its late for me too! And with that we had no other option but to leave! I was not a happy person at that point and now, at least until school restarts, I'm put down for a class I've already spent an entire year learning. Great. Went to school today; the first time in months. Construction is going smoothly -- I'm pretty sure they're already done with a couple buildings. I found myself there because it was the day of the freshman orientation, along with tours given by students (aka us.)
In all honesty, at the beginning of the day, I was not sure I would be able to even do the tours, given the fact that I've only been at the school for a year, and in that time, I was mostly in G hall. But when a mother and her daughter requested a tour (she was going to be in IB) I realized I couldn't stop talking. I literally told them everything I knew about the school and the freshman IB. Probably even the things they might have been better off not knowing about our school...oops.. Only when I went supply shopping for the 11th (?) time in my life, did it finally dawn on me that school was literally right around the corner....
Soon, the title to these post will no longer be Summer 2K14, but it will go back to whatever cheesy title I need to sum up that event... Here we go, 10th grade...yay -_- |
